⚓️ See you on Threads? Social media is finally delightful again

Hi Reader,

Are you using Threads, Meta's new Twitter competitor? I signed up right away because it took all of five seconds from my Instagram account, and I've been having fun on social media for the first time in years. There's no pressure to create videos or gorgeous images, and you can just chat about whatever. I've decided to use it as a person, not a business, unlike any of our other social media platforms. I want to use it to make friends and reconnect with old friends.

Here's what I'm talking about on there (though I'm also having useful conversations about taking vacations as a business owner and switching to new software):

It kind of reminds me of Twitter a dozen years ago, when makers and designers were chatting and having book clubs and live Tweet chats etc.

Here's what I like about Threads:

  • I don't have to prepare gorgeous images or make an awkward video (but one can if one wants)
  • I can see the conversations people I'm following are having and can join in (as Jessica Hische mentions above)
  • It's very easy to say hi to people I've followed for years who may or may not know me (and most people don't have huge followings yet, so I'm not drowning in the noise)
  • There are no private DMs, so it feels like all conversations are happening in the open, and you're welcome to participate
  • It doesn't feel very promotional (yet)

Will you join in? Come say hi to me and we can just chat and be real people and not businesses. Of course, Meta may certainly turn it into some kind of dystopian hellscape, but for now it's kinda fun!

Q&A

Here's a question you may not have known to ask, as answered by Helen, Ecommerce Strategist on our team:

Q: What should I do about Google's announcement that they may delete accounts that have not been active for two years?

A: What this means for email marketing: make sure to create segments based on engagement and implement strategies such as sunset flows to keep your list clean. If someone has not engaged in two years you should not be marketing to them anyway. Be sure to review your processes now so that you don't have an increase in hard bounces when Google starts deleting accounts in December as this could hurt your sender reputation. You can read more about this here.
