⚓️ How to get more value from your mailing list this BFCM

Happening TODAY—don’t miss my website audits workshop: Join here

Hi Reader,

It's that time of year again! I'm here to give you a boost with your email marketing before Black Friday/Cyber Monday (BFCM), whether you want to DIY it or hire our help.

If you've been getting email from me for a while, you've probably noticed that making money from your website is a holistic thing. This is why our email marketing strategy services are part of the triad (branding, website, email marketing) we insist on getting right.

If you have been using basic email marketing features with success, you can see substantial sales increases by trying more advanced features. There are many ways to get more value from your mailing list, and here's what I have for you this season:

Video: Email Marketing Strategies for the Holidays and Beyond

After the flurry of holiday promotions, email marketing requires a fresh approach. In this presentation, we'll help you plan your Black Friday/Cyber Monday (BFCM) email strategy and highlight essential housekeeping practices that will land your emails in more inboxes after the holidays. We'll take a deeper look at the most successful year-round strategies for ecommerce email marketing: segmentation and automation. Not just for corporate brands, these data-driven tools can be leveraged by creative founders to foster more personal connections with their online customers.

Black Friday Email Campaign Template

We have the email campaign template we talked about in the video for you. Click this link while you're logged into your Google account, and it will prompt you to make a copy in your Google Drive. The first tab has an example, and the second tab of the spreadsheet is blank, for you to create your own plan.

Hire Aeolidia to Optimize Your Klaviyo Strategy

Our Klaviyo service begins at $6000 for the first month. This setup project is foundational, the basics of what you need to have a solid Klaviyo strategy. The optional next month dives into a necessary automation strategy. From there, we can continue to refine and optimize on retainer. You can learn more about what we do for each project in this blog post.

As a benchmark, we expect at least 25% of your total Shopify revenue to be attributed to your flows and campaigns in Klaviyo. For accounts that are already doing well, we are often able to push that to 30-40%. We also optimize your newsletter pop-up to increase signups, and we design a very flexible template framework that makes it much easier for you to get those campaigns out twice a week.

Depending on how your stats look now, this project can have a strong return on investment. If you're not sure, we can take a look and advise. I'd be glad for you to email me back if you have any questions about ecommerce email marketing.

Feel Like Your Shop Is Too Small to Hire Help?

Setting up Klaviyo correctly can be a lot of work and requires expertise. But so worth it, because you see the money start coming in right away. If you're curious about this, here's a quick overview from Kyle of Sommer Letter Co about our service:

"6 months ago I paid someone $5000 to help me set up my email strategy in Klaviyo. It was a lot of money and I was scared 😅. So here's the rundown on who I hired, what they did, and how it went."

Spoiler: it was us! We enjoyed working with Kyle and hope to do the same for you.

Q&A

Here are a few viewer questions from our BFCM webinar, answered by Helen Hulskamp, Ecommerce Strategist on our team:

Q: How can we re-engage existing customers this holiday if we haven’t been as active on email marketing?

A: Now's a great time to start warming your list back up. Send a regular newsletter for the next few weeks, and then you'll be able to see who's engaging and who's not. You can use the segment of engaged customers to email more regularly and save the full list for your most important few emails.

Q: How about some strategies for building your list outside of social media?

Definitely use your website to build your list! Here's our blog post about this.

Q: How do I know what is working? I look at my analytics but it feels like a crapshoot from “open rate” to “what subject line do I write?"

This is a big question. A good place to start would be to look at these benchmarks and see how you compare.

Q: Do I send a bunch of short emails or one long one?

People have short attention spans, and they don't always open every email. To keep top of mind, it's helpful to be in touch often over the holiday shopping season, and keep your emails easily digestible.

Q: What about resending to non-openers? Does that help or hurt? I usually get around a 40-42% open rate, but then get another 10-13% on my resend.

Only do this for especially important "must-see" campaigns. The official word from Klaviyo about this is, "Approach this tactic with caution, and do not do this for all of your campaigns. Consistently sending to people who do not open your emails can seriously damage your sender reputation and lead to your emails landing in the spam folder. Consider instead sending to a segment of customers who received the email, but did not purchase."
