A: While offering a discount in exchange for an email signup is very common and even de rigueur in some industries such as fashion, at Aeolidia we love helping merchants brainstorm non-discount offers. Here are some examples:

Sugar House Baby sells adorable personalizable baby items. Their newsletter offer is free printable nursery art of alphabet letters that you can personalize to display your baby’s name or initial.
Simplified sells iconic planners designed by Emily Ley. Their site features a whole library of free printable planner pages and organizational tools that you can download by subscribing.
Brands like Twig and Tale and Cozyblue Handmade, who sell sewing, knitting, or embroidery designs can offer a free pattern, stitch guide, or other resources.
Little Apple Treats sends their newsletter subscribers easy recipes featuring their delicious vinegars and shrubs.

Offer something that is enticing to your specific target customer. Mention this offer everywhere you have a newsletter signup form, including the footer and checkout where the copy often defaults to unappealing “news & updates.” If you are offering a downloadable item, make sure it includes your branding and website address!
