Hi Reader,
At Craftcation, we had the pleasure of meeting Robin Imholte, an early childhood education specialist with a passion for hands-on learning. Robin is the creative mind behind Messy Play Kits, a company dedicated to providing STEAM and sensory kits for children ages 3 to 8. These thoughtfully designed kits not only engage young learners but also encourage exploration, creativity, and critical thinking—all while embracing the joy of messy play.
For Messy Play Kits, we developed a tailored Shopify site that balances enhanced functionality with a user-friendly design. Built on a premium theme, the website features a Custom Subscriptions page to simplify the subscription process, alongside key app integrations for a seamless shopping experience. Our blog customization allows readers to easily "shop the post" and explore categorized content from the landing page. To complete the project, we crafted compelling copy for both the Homeand Subscriptions pages ensuring clear, engaging messaging that connects with customers and showcases the value of Messy Play Kits.
Here's what Robin has to say about working with Aeolidia:
"I was hesitant because of the price point. It's hard to know if investing that much money is going to pay off in the end.
I feel much more confident in my website and the new copy. I feel like the homepage and navigation flows are much more clear. I love the "shop the blog" feature that Aeolidia added, and the "subscription landing page" is going to be SO helpful for walking customers through subscriptions.
I loved how I gave some info upfront and the design and copy teams NAILED it! They really got my vibe and came up with beautiful designs. The whole process was so easy. I was so impressed with the new navigation plan and Aeolidia had ideas I had never thought of! I really love how it sounds just like me and my business, without me having to write and plan everything!!!"

Q&A
Here's a reader question about improving check-out as answered by Helen Hulskamp, Ecommerce Strategist on our team: Q: How can I optimize checkout if I'm not on Shopify Plus?
A: It is true that if you are not on Shopify Plus, which starts around $2000/month, then you have very limited ability to customize your checkout screens. The good news is that Shopify has already put a lot of thought into optimizing their checkout. And there are quite a few things that non-Plus merchants can do to further reduce friction during the critical last steps of the purchase process.
Use Shopify’s checkout editor to ensure your checkout is branded and feels like a continuation of your site.
Also in the checkout editor, enable the one-page checkout layout.
Accept a wide variety of payment methods, especially accelerated checkout methods like Shop Pay. Also add “buy now, pay later” payment options to your site if appropriate for your products.
Do not require that users have an account to check out and do not require or even ask for optional information such as first name or company name.
Do collect email and sms newsletter subscriptions at checkout, but do not preselect these options.
Do send abandoned checkout reminders, preferably through an email service provider like Klaviyo.
One of the most important ways to reduce friction at checkout is to have appealing shipping options. No one enjoys paying for shipping. Offering free shipping above a certain threshold allows you to boost revenue while rewarding your best customers.
When your store grows to the point of needing Shopify Plus, there are much more advanced ways you can optimize the checkout process to increase conversion rate and order value. Contact us if you’d like more information about optimizing your Plus store.
