⚓️ Pricing strategy: how to charge what you're worth

Finally fix your Shopify site! Grab a coveted spot in our 2024 schedule.

Hi Reader,

It can be so hard to set pricing for your work and charge what you're worth, whether you provide a service or sell products. You want to charge what seems “fair,” you want to position yourself correctly among your competitors, you want customers to continue to purchase from you, and of course, you want to earn a living.

I think that many small creative businesses are undervaluing their work, which I’m sure is not news to you. It’s funny, because if you’re like me, and call yourself “boss,” you may be in an enviable position where you can decide how much money you make – so why are we so hesitant to give ourselves a raise after years of dedicated work?

Let's explore the pitfalls of undercharging and map out a plan to charge what you're worth.

Q&A

Here's a reader question about SEO, from Jo, as answered by Kai, SEO Consultant on our team:

Q: Jo asks, "What is the best way to have your website come up on search engines?"

A: First, prioritize understanding your audience’s needs and weave this insight into your content. What problems are they experiencing? How do your products help resolve that problem? What terms are they searching for when they’re seeking out products?

By integrating this research into your content, you’re aligning your site with the actual search behavior of your audience and empathizing with their needs.

Then, you want to optimize your site for your identified terms. That means that for each term you want your site to come up for, you want to optimize a page. That means:

  • Deciding which page on your site corresponds to that term.
  • Updating the SEO Title for that page to include that term/keyword/phrase.
  • Updating the content for that page — like the collection description, product description, or other page content — to include a few sentences that naturally include that term.

You must create organic, naturally written content with your audience and their needs in mind not content that’s stuffed full of keywords like a fruitcake.

Altogether, those steps will help your website come up on search engines.

And remember, SEO is like planting a garden. When you optimize a page on your site, you’re planting marketing seeds that may likely take weeks — or months — to start to grow and blossom.
